Recap: Sony State of Play June 2025

Recap: Sony State of Play June 2025

Sony's State of Play went from something people weren't sure of that would even happen to the first bombastic conference of NotE3 week.

Notice: Some games may flip for other systems but this is just what we know now.

Lumines Arise (PS5/VR2)
I am not a big fan of music and rhythm stuff, and really not big on artsy presentations over games. That being said Tetris Effect was an actually moving fantastic experience and the fact this director is doing Lumines Arise makes it a game I'm instantly wanting to experience.

Pragmata (PS5)
Capcom's long developed mystery survivor + little girl simulator is now finally coming out next year. I have no idea what this game really is besides weird and the girl hacks with her hands. Gives me Dead Space vibes but like anime goofiness dialed to 11.

Romeo is a Dead Man (PS5)
Suda51 is back and just as weird as ever. A guy shows up dying, had a device jammed in his face and becomes this zombie killing machine with Cyclops' headgear. If you like ultra violence and bizarre this is for you.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement (Everything)
The long awaited sequel to Bloodstained is here. I knew this would show up eventually as last years dlc was the bridging to the second game. This latest entry will be paying homage to Castlevania Portrait of Ruin's dual protag system (CHARLOTTE! JONATHON!) . I cannot wait for this game.

Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles (Everything)
The PS1 classic gets an HD coat of paint and some voice acting.

Hirogami (PS5)
If you like Donkey Kong Country at all you will get a kick out of Hirogami. This has all the vibes of a 3D take on DKC with a cool fix of transformations via origami.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection (Everything)
Digital Eclipse is taking their interactive documentary series to the gorey streets of yesteryear with an MK collection focusing on the series up until around 2003.

Nioh 3 (PS5)
The samurai/ninja souls series gets a bit faster with this latest entry. I honestly thought this was Ninja Gaiden 4 during its reveal.

Sea of Remnants (PS5)
Those that enjoyed Clair Obscur earlier this year may enjoy this at sea turn based rpg that looks to have a bit of the wacky on its side. I think we need more details to judge this one fully.

Sword of the Sea (PS5)
The next game by the creators of Journey has you sandsurfing on a sword. These games are very much graphical showcases and art pieces rather than deep game play experiences. This one hits PS Extra in August.

007 First Light (Everything)
The Hitman team finally has unveiled their new big series and we are playing as James Bond early in his career before he gets the number 007. The game play screams Hitman but faster and this could be a massive treat when it releases.

Silent Hill f (PS5/PC)
Silent Hill is back and is focused on japanese schoolgirls in a horror hellfest. It reminds me a lot of the current Ultimate X-men run, it seems someone has died and our protag school girl blames herself...into insanity!

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls (PS5/PC)
Marvel Vs Marvel is here from Arc System Works, the makers of Guilty Gear and Dragonball Fighter Z, are delivering a 4V4 Tag fighter. Everything is gorgeously styled and themed as if the Marvel cast resided in Japan and not New York. Iron Man for instance looks like hes more Gundam than the sleek shellhead we are used too. So far Iron Man, Captain America, Starlord, Ms Marvel, Spider-Man, Storm, Ghost Rider, and Dr Doom have been announced.
